Fall and the Wisco crosser's mind turns to black and white, stars and hearts. Fuck yeah! The BKB comes back to cross hitting hard with the old guard and a host of new faces ready to take barriers, run ups and dolla dolla bills with a smile, a smirk and a determined mindset that screams kill at all costs but have a good time doing it!
Cross this year came with a little prelim to the season proper. LYLEZ went for it straight outta the box taking on the first ILLINOISE cx of the season at Jackson Park in Chica-chica-Chicago! But one big city wasn't enough fer that boy cuz not a week later he headed for Sin City central and was balls deep in Cross Vegas with all the heavy hitters- Page, Armstrong? Ha, add the name Hanson to that group. He may be humble about how he did, but he was there and damn if that isn't something in itself!
So let's get ourselves to the main thang though shall we? Damn straight! The BKB showed up en masse for the first Wisco cx race and arguably the crown jewel of the season, the Jonathan Page/Planet Bike CUP in Sun Prairie Wisco Rock City! A run down of the masters of disaster follows:
The old guard:
Jen*Pow- 2 yr vet and ready to throw down at moments notice!
DAN*Pow- 3 yr cx vet and gettin' faster as we speak- watch out fer this one!
DJONNYMAC- three year cx vet- the oldster but ready to mix it up with the youngin's- BRING IT!!
The few who even though the jersey said otherwise:
SCOTTY
New faces all over the place yo!:
JAMES Ira- BKB since birth? Yes!
Ian- The youngest of the BKB and he's winning his age division already! Long live tradition!
Ryan- An unknown quantity, but not for long we wager
Colin- The Zen master- it ain't about when you get there, it's how you get there.
TIM B- BKB WORS vet bringing it to the cx scene for the first time in the stars and hearts.
Rick Walls- Another WORS monster bringin the craft to the barrier and hand up set- oh yeah.
All brought what they had to the JP cup mayhem. Put those first two under the belt and let's go for weel two! CAMROCK!!! Here's where it really starts! Yeah Sun Prairie was the mecca for the big names in cross but CamRock is the insane rollercoaster that personifies Wisco cx! We came to burn and burn we did! Ian H. starts things off fast with a victory in the 15 and under cat. The bar's gettin raised already??? Damn right it is!!! J*POW rocks it in the womens 4s and Colin, D*POW, Ryan, Rick, and Djonnymac make the black and white the dominant colour in the cat 4 men. Tim B holds down the unenviable spot in the Masters 40+- hell, you wanna go 50 plus minutes with some of the fastest, hardest guys on the circuit? Good luck! After all that it was superfanning time and that's another BKB specialty cuz ya see it's not just about how you do but what you can bring to the party as a whole and the BKB brings a whole lot. Couple us with Team PEGASUS, Magnus and PLANET BIKE and you have start to finish, wall to wall, barrier to barrier, floor to ceiling MAYHEM!!! And CamRock was no exception. It was like we ended State Champs last year and just picked it up a week later. YEAH!!!!
Oh but we're not done yet (and we're a long ways from even being close to being done yet!). The next day after CamRock came an about face with the first inkling of weather to come for the rest of the cx season. Delafield or better known to it's vets as HELLAFIELD! is a long punishing prarie grass course which if the weather's nice can be hard, bumpy, and unforgiving, but if it's wet it can be hard, slippery, muddy and equally unforgiving. Last Sunday was both. Rick and Djonnymac held it down in the 4s with the dry, the bumpy and death march hill run-up. BRUTAL!!!
Until next time...
