Bikes of the BKB. (partIII)
We interrupt your mid-winter frump just in time for part three of "bikes of the BKB". Fresh from the land of milk and honey resides a figure whose diet consists of Slim Jim's and OJ. A character who's love for big wheels and one cog alone run deeper than the ink in his skin. Enter J. LaLonde better known as creepyfriendly or the BKB ring leader. Creepyfriendly resides in Madison, Wisconsin with his lovely wife Amanda and can be found carving single track on any given day of the week. Stating that CF is a competitive racer would be allegory as he strives for the front of the elite pack while aboard his rigid 29er single speed. Current sponsors include: Gary Fisher Bicycles, Bontrager, Twin Six, Kenwood racing, TBS West and the BKB.
The assembly is easy: First generation Gary Fisher rig that has seen numerous component changes, terrains, riders, owners, and has even undergone a face lift. Originally pearl purple the current status of this aluminum steed falls somewhere between pepto and pearl pink depending on the time of day. No longer under the roof of the CF lab this one of two carcass is in good hands.
The majority of this steeds life was spent on the mtb race scene and boasts a first place (pedal portion) at the 2005 single speed world championships in State College, PA. The versatility shined when she brought home silver at the 05 state cx championships and completed a road century the following spring. No matter what her current form is she'll be missed from the CF house hold yet only be doors away.
Formula: Tipping the scales at 19.2 the BKB pink rig is quite simple. Pace fork connected with a king, bontrager race lite steering wheel. Stopping provided by Avid with their fine Black ops ultimates. Bontrager race lite ss crank (32t), Sram chain wrapped around the in it to win it 14t surly cog. CF hand built wheels constructed from Bonty Mustang rims and King hubs. Rubberized traction comes in the form of the always reliable WTB Nanos and seating provided by Bontrager in the race lite persuasion.
Rumor has it that frame number two has been spotted down by the lake at deer caahmp and is next on the block. Tune in next month.
